United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) UNHCR is the United Nations Refugee Agency. Created in 1950 to provide international protection to refugees and assist in finding solutions for them, it has grown into one of the largest international humanitarian agencies. UNHCR has twice been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for its work.
